Wireless Networks

What happens when an ordinary task becomes an extraordinary problem? We can help you with high-powered and specialized wireless networking solutions.
A common myth is that wireless N is the solution. In actuality, that’s not always, or even usually, the case. Yes, wireless N uses an array of three antennas to work around obstructions and use obstacles to it’s advantage. That’s where the advantage of N actually ends. In fact, the antenna array is almost useless if the card on the receiving end doesn’t have the same antenna array. Standard wireless N routers can not use high gain antennas, nor are the units themselves high powered. In truth, wireless A or high-powered wireless G can reach a lot further.

Examples of our work:
We were called in on referral to the Donato Hotel in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. They have two hotels on Mosley St, one down the street from the other. Previously they had an off the shelf Dlink router with an antenna hanging in the window. At their other hotel they had an antenna haphazardly hanging on the side of the building hooked up to a wireless card in the computer. In between the hotels was heavy traffic, lots of trees and a power transformer.
It’s not difficult to imagine why functionality was limited, with frequent disconnects and ultimately no connection at all. We installed a couple of high powered access points providing over 600 mW of power (an off the shelf Dlink provides less than 30) and a couple of high gain unidirectional antennas. Now both hotels can connect to the booking software wirelessly and share internet.
